January is the month when every brand wants to look fresh. New Year greetings, winter festivals, Republic Day, plus the end of the wedding pause after Makar Sankranti. It is also a month where several big days fall close together, so teams that plan in December stay calm and teams that plan on the day post late.
Here are the January 2027 events and important days in India that matter for most businesses, followed by notes on which ones to treat as selling days.

The selling days in January
For most local businesses, three January dates move real money.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day belong to restaurants, cafés, hotels, bakeries and party venues. Bookings for 31 December are made in the first half of December, so the January post is really a thank-you and a “come back this weekend” message.
Makar Sankranti and Lohri are big for sweet shops (til, gajak, rewari, peanut chikki), kite sellers, and anyone selling winter clothing or gifting. In Punjab and Delhi NCR, Lohri bonfire nights are an event in themselves for banquet halls and farmhouses.
Republic Day is the last selling day of the month, with long-weekend travel, Republic Day sales in electronics and apparel, and patriotic themed menus.
Special days January 2027 for greeting posts
National Youth Day suits coaching centres, colleges, gyms and youth brands. National Girl Child Day is a good fit for schools, hospitals and brands that work with families, but only with a respectful message, not a sales offer. Army Day and Martyrs’ Day call for simple tributes. Avoid putting discounts or product shots next to them.
World Hindi Day is an easy, warm post for any brand that talks to a Hindi-speaking audience. A short line in Hindi on your usual design template is enough.
The wedding season returns
After Makar Sankranti, wedding muhurats start again for the second half of the season. Jewellers, banquet halls, caterers, boutiques and salons should plan a “season part two” push for the last ten days of January, with fresh real-wedding photos from November and December.
Plan the month in December
Write the list above into your content calendar now, decide which days get an offer and which get a greeting, and get the designs approved before Christmas. Your designer will thank you, and your posts will go up at 9 in the morning instead of 9 at night.

Ideas for January 2027 posts
A few formats work well across January. A “Year in review” carousel on 1 January with your best moments of 2026, real customers and a thank-you note. A Lohri or Sankranti product flat-lay with til laddoos, gajak or kites on a warm background. A short Republic Day reel showing your team, your shop and your city, with the tricolour used respectfully and no discount text on top of it.
For service businesses, January is also the month of resolutions. Gyms, dieticians, coaching centres and skincare clinics can run a “new year, new start” offer in the first two weeks, when motivation is at its peak.
